International Forum on Territory, Decentralised Cooperation and New Active Multilateralism

International Forum on Territory, Decentralised Cooperation and New Active Multilateralism

It will take place on November 24th and 25th.

The “International Forum on Territory, Decentralised Cooperation and New Active Multilateralism” aims at exchanging experiences and promoting the debate on new processes of international cooperation, both considering the territory as the protagonist and enhancing the articulations with decentralised cooperation actors and civil society, as well as the new active multilateralism.

The international cooperation agenda (Paris Declaration or Accra Agenda) considers decentralised cooperation as a key actor for international solidarity. However, we still have to face up many challenges in the field of aid and cooperation actors’ articulation efficiency in order to turn territories and peoples into the main actors of their development.

There is still a long way to go regarding complementarity and decentralised cooperation coordination. At present, the challenge consists on deepening coordination between the actors of international cooperation, strengthening the role of the territory in appropriation processes of development planning. The network organisation allows us to debate about the role of decentralised cooperation together with the new instruments of new active multilateralism concerning the design of strategies and politics for an improved and democratic government of the territory. All this must take place within the framework of sustainable human development and should aim at achieving the Millennium Development Goals and the alternatives for another possible world.
