EVS: Local Authorities in solidarity sought for the right to housing without frontiers
The International Alliance of Inhabitants (IAI) is organising the third edition of the "Inhabitants of the World" project, as part of the preparations for the World Assembly of Inhabitants (Dakar, WSF 2011), which FAL is supporting.
This project is part of European Voluntary Service (EVS), a program financed by the European Commission, which offers young Europeans between 18 and 30 years old the possibility of doing voluntary service in another country with the aim of developing international exchanges, solidarity and intercultural sensitivity.
The “Inhabitants of the World” project is an initiative that has been organised together with INCO and other NGOs. Besides offering an opportunity for informal learning to those youth who are interested, it also aims to support IAI’s activities, in Latin America, Africa, Europe and Asia.
The volunteers will be involved for a 12-month period in collaborating with organisations in the area to meet local people, promote seminars and discussion sessions, help produce informative material on initiatives and policies in support of the right to housing and to the city, research data on the local situation and give suggestions and ideas for each initiative proposed.
FAL and IAI, within the framework of our partnership sharing the aims of this initiative, are aiming to develop a new form of decentralised cooperation and participatory awareness raising. We would therefore like to propose to all those local authorities in solidarity, to collaborate with this project to give young people in their area the opportunity of service abroad.
Projects must be presented to the European Commission between February 2010, in order to send young people, presumably, during the period between August 2010 – August 2011. In view of this, any local authorities that are interested are invited to contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
