GLOBAL CRISIS AND SOLUTIONS FROM THE LOCAL SPHERE

“The local governments have a deep knowledge about the vital needs of the majority of our populations due to the growing inequalities provoked by the Global Crisis. We must face it with an important reduction of financing and the local administration’s capacity of acting in a context where a useless and inhuman answer to the crisis prevails: reduction of investments and social expenses, control of production and consumption in order to recover the benefit rate of financial and speculative capital (at the very best, returning to the same situation that provoked the current crisis).
Therefore, the Andalusian local governments engaged in building a new possible world, and believing that for doing so it is necessary to have a local empowerment reinforced by its participatory democratic action and a strategic relation with social organisations, organise the third Forum of Local Authorities. At this occasion, Andalusian local governments and local governments from all over the world will analyse and promote a network on alternatives arising from the local powers. We also plan to develop a more specific work for Andalusia and to make proposals for the 9th World Assembly of the FAL Network (Dakar, February 2011, 11th World Social Forum). For this purpose, we are pleased to invite local governments and authorities, social organisations, Andalusian and from other places and researchers engaged in building a higher local power and developing networking for social inclusion and participatory democracy to Malaga on the 4th and 5th of November 2010.
