‘Local Power and Global Crisis’ was the title of the call for participation of the Forum of Local Authorities, which gathered more than 200 registered delegates, including delegates from the local administrations of ten countries, four Councils from Andalusia and almost 40 municipalities represented, as well as citizen associations and NGOs. After a morning session focused on the debates concerning the three main axes: Decentralized Cooperation and Human Rights, Participatory Budgeting and Social Inclusion, and Local Economic Alternatives and Sustainability, the local authorities agreed the ‘Commitment of Malaga: local authorities and social movements for the creation of local power to face the global crisis’, the Forum final text, as a proposal of local alternatives to face the global crisis.
The FAL (Forum of Local Authorities for Social Inclusion and Participatory Democracy in Andalusia), gathered in a moment of systemic crisis, proposes the defeat of the system of conservative unilateralism through the promotion of alternatives arising from the local sphere. In this meeting, the commitment of the FAL Network and the World Social Forum has been confirmed, just as the initiative for building and consolidating municipalist networks in order to create local alternatives to face the neoliberal offensive, and acknowledging the important role of FAMSI in this field.
