Human Rights in the City, a text open to debate

FAMSI, CISDP – UCLG, SPIDH (International permanent Secretariat "Human Rights and local governments”) and the FAL Network, in collaboration with the Regional Government of Granada (Spain), will hold the Andalusian Seminar on the “Charter-Agenda of Human Rights in the City” on March 19th , at 12 a.m. in the assembly room of the Regional Government’s headquarters.

This event is organised within the framework of the ALTER-ACCIONES seminar, promoted by the Regional Government of Granada. The seminar will be attended by Julio Bernardo, Vice-Chair (Second) of the Regional Government of Granada, and Eva G. Chueca, Executive Secretary of the UCLG Social Inclusion and Participatory Democracy Commission. The Vice-Chair (Second) of the Regional Government of Malaga, Miguel Esteban, and the President of FAMSI, Francisco Pulido, are also expected to attend the event.

The invitation will be sent to all the Andalusian municipalities and social movements which participated in the creation of this Human Rights Charter-Agenda.

The seminar aims at being a meeting between local authorities and organised civil society movements, open to the participation of university students and to any other contribution to this globally debated text: the Charter-Agenda of Human Rights in the City.

The millions of inhabitants and workers of Paris and its outskirts, i.e. its users, as well as those living in other big metropolis, have to face the logics of neoliberal globalisation: the weight of financial and real estate benefits, destructive productivism, segregation and security policies and territorial and social inequalities. Nowadays, these are the logics that drive all the aspects of urban development: housing, transport, health, environment, access to rights and culture, etc.

Territorial Forum of Rosario’s Periphery.

This forum aims at boosting the creation of a place for meeting, debate and thinking about the periphery of Rosario. The main actors will be those living and working in the periphery, the ones who really know and, sometimes, suffer the periphery, those who defend it, identify with it and mainly those who try to turn it into an open space for everyone, a much more fair and supportive place. Two editions have already been held in November 2008 and 2009. Both events were attended by citizen organizations from several districts of the periphery of the city which had the opportunity to meet and exchange experiences related to social struggle and organization.
