The Social Forum for Solidary Metropolis calls for action.

The millions of inhabitants and workers of Paris and its outskirts, i.e. its users, as well as those living in other big metropolis, have to face the logics of neoliberal globalisation: the weight of financial and real estate benefits, destructive productivism, segregation and security policies and territorial and social inequalities. Nowadays, these are the logics that drive all the aspects of urban development: housing, transport, health, environment, access to rights and culture, etc.
The future of the cities integrating the Parisian agglomeration must be above all a matter of its inhabitants and users, whatever their nationalities and statuses, our concern. Whereas, for months, the Big Paris debates are turning their back on citizens and their diversity, we claim for the opposite: the need of building a solidarity-based metropolis via an open, free and non-hierarchical process.
We ask all the organisations –associations, trade unions, constituted networks- and, more generally, all the persons wishing to become actors of a human, democratic, solidary and ecological metropolis, to build a Social Forum understood as a place for exchanging experiences, debating, creating convergences on common problems and building alternatives for the present and future of our cities.
This forum is integrated in the World Social Forum (WSF) process. Since its first edition in 2001, this process has been in permanent development, even via local social forums following the Charter of Porto Alegre (several dozens in France).
Even if we don’t rule out that, in its processes of development and according to the circumstances, the Social Forum might organise thematic events, our current main objective is the celebration of a big multi-thematic event in 2010, which is the year of global action on WSF including a wide variety of events all over the world. These initiatives may adopt different forms: workshops, conferences, expositions, concerts and parties, centralised or decentralised events, etc.
Building a Social Forum in favour of solidary metropolis is a collective process which has to be as large as possible and avoid any political instrumentalization. This process will gather all the initiatives and proposals made by those participating in it. Its initiative committee will always work following the consensus-based method and will remain open to any entity wishing to get involved. We invite you to participate in the construction of a Social Forum for Solidary Metropolis.
